COUNCIL RECAP: Honoring The Honor Flight Program, Bolstering Oleander Drive Sidewalks, And More

Wilmington City Council holding its second regular meeting for the month of April. First up, Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area was recognized.

The honor flight offers veterans an all-expenses paid trip to visit military service memorials in our nation’s capital. Their next flight is April 29th.

Next, council received a presentation from the city/county workforce housing advisory committee.

“Our most historical local commitment to affordable housing occurred last year with Starway Villages, “said Shamonique Brantley, chair of the Workforce Housing Advisory Committee. “This multifamily community will add 278 affordable units to the local housing stock, including 20 fully accessible ADA units

Next, a construction contract was awarded for Oleander Drive sidewalk improvements.

The work will provide a continuous sidewalk along Oleander Drive from Hawthorne Road to 42nd Street and will include new curbing, sidewalks, and pedestrian signals and crossings.

Lastly, after a public hearing, council authorized city staff to proceed with matters necessary for the installment financing of the potential purchase of the northern downtown campus and parking deck.

City Council will meet again on May 2nd at 6:30 p.m.
